Harmonium Workshops

Wonderful opportunity for those who would like to learn how to accompany their mantra singing with harmonium playing. Krishangi Lila organizes workshops all over the world.

She started teaching harmonium three years ago when Bhaktivedanta College in Radhadesh came up with the idea of organizing a two-month long summer course in the kirtan tradition. It has been a successful course since 2014, and every year its popularity is increasing.

As the mantra singing tradition has become a very popular to express one’s devotion, she felt the need of organizing shorter and longer workshops wherever there is a need for such a course.

In the longer Harmonium courses that last at least one month ( or even two), Krishangi Lila will provide

  • an overview to North Indian music theory

  • learning the notation of Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni, Sa

  • practicing of alankaras ( embellishments and fingering exercises)

  • covering the topics of ten thaats ( musical scales)

  • introducing the accompaniment with chords from western music system

  • learning the necessary tunes like Nrsimha mantra and Damodarashtaka for temple worship

In shorter weekend courses she will give an overview of:

  • the Western notation system

  • basic chord progressions for accompaniment the mantra singing

  • play up to three kirtan melodies
